Preparing for the Worst with New Jersey Commercial Auto Insurance

Category: Our Blog

Any business that operates vehicles needs New Jersey commercial auto insurance. When you deliver items, transport people, or have representatives on the road, the chances are that sooner or later, one of your drivers will be involved in an accident. Would they know what to do? It can be a good idea to prepare a laminated set of procedures and place one in the glove compartment of each vehicle. Here are some examples of what you might include:

  1. Call emergency services immediately if injuries or serious damage are involved.
  2. Move vehicles off the roadway only if it is safe to do so and damage is minor.
  3. When vehicles cannot be moved due to damage, take steps to warn approaching drivers of the danger if it’s possible to do so safely.
  4. Do not admit liability for the accident to occupants of other vehicles or witnesses.
  5. Obtain the license, registration and insurance details of the other party.
  6. Contact the office as soon as you can to advise of the incident and request assistance if necessary.

Having an accident in a vehicle that’s not yours can be even more upsetting than crashing your own vehicle. Drivers can be quite distressed at an accident scene so being able to refer to a list can help them to focus on the problem at hand.

Accidents do not have to be the end of the world if they are handled properly. With the right New Jersey commercial auto insurance, and some guidelines for drivers, you could all be back on the road with a minimum of fuss.
