According to The Associated Press, Eagle Recycling of New Jersey has been sentenced to pay a $500,000 criminal fine and more than $70,000 in cleanup costs. This is due to its role in dumping thousands of tons of asbestos-contaminated construction debris on farmland near the Mohawk River in 2006.

Federal prosecutors say Eagle Recycling pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge earlier this year and agreed to comply with environmental laws. The accusation included producing most of the truckloads of debris dumped on 1.3 acres on the 28-acre farm in Frankfort. The illegal Frankfort dump was shut down in 2006.
